Appeals

In accordance with Louisiana revised statutes, we open our books annually for public inspection for 15 calendar days. This open book period will take place between August 15th and September 15Th, the exact dates will be published in The Democrat and listed on this website under Important Dates/Deadlines. This is the time that property owners should review the values of their property and if there are any questions about the value, they should contact our office. If your opinion of the value of your property differs from the value that we have placed on your property, this is the time to discuss the issue with us. Do not wait until you receive your tax bill. Be prepared to show evidence that the assessor’s valuation of the property is incorrect, as well as evidence of the correct value. Our staff will be glad to answer your questions about the assessor’s appraisal.

If a property owner wishes for a third party to speak to us on their behalf, they must provide an Appointment of Taxpayer Agent form (form 3103.B) before we can discuss the property with their designated agent.

If at the conclusion of the open book period you still disagree with the valuation of your property, you may formally protest the value by submitting an Appeal to Board of Review form (form 3101) to the West Feliciana Parish Council who serves as the local Board of Review. The dates of both the formal protest period and the Board of Review hearing(s) will be published in The Democrat and listed on this website under Important Dates/Deadlines.

If either party is not satisfied with the determination of the local Board of Review, either party may submit an Appeal to Louisiana Tax Commission form (form 3103.A) to request review by the Louisiana Tax Commission. The Louisiana Tax Commission will consider any and all appeals timely filed in hearings that are open to the public.

All forms referenced above can be downloaded from the form section of this website. Mailing addresses for the local Board of Review and Louisiana Tax Commission are provided below:
